Howell "Dudley" Foreman, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2017,
while in hospice care at his daughter’s home. Dudley was born to Howell Dudley
Foreman, Sr., and Sarah Elizabeth Perry, who predeceased him, in Panama City, Fl.,
where he also grew up. After attending Bay County High School and serving in the
U.S. Army during the Korean War, Dudley earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
from The Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now known as Auburn University). He
married the late Rose Frazar Foreman in 1961. During their 55 years of marriage
his work took them to homes in Louisiana, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Texas (twice),
settling permanently in Houston.
Dudley was a registered professional engineer in five states. He worked in
instrumentation, control systems and power engineering for over 40 years,
including being the field superintendent for the world’s first power station that
was converted to automatic control by means of a digital computer. He was an
active member of the The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society (ISA)
serving as President for the Omaha section in the late 1970's. A true engineer,
his favorite event each year was attending and volunteering at the Offshore
Technology Conference!
He will be remembered as a true southern gentleman who demonstrated the utmost
integrity, serving as a good friend and mentor to many who will greatly miss him.
Dudley is survived by his children, Howell Dudley Foreman, III, and Janet Foreman
Eckert and husband Matthew; by granddaughters Melanie and Sydney Foreman; by
nieces, nephews, and other family.
Dudley will be cremated and interred at Houston National Cemetery in a graveside
military ceremony on Monday July 24th at 10:15 am. In lieu of flowers, the family
suggests memorial contributions be made in his honor to a charity of choice.
