Dwayne wasn’t just a co-worker or a friend— I loved him like a son.
His smile, his spirit, and his gentle heart brought such light into my life and to everyone blessed to know him. I will always carry him in my heart — proud of the man he was and grateful for the love, laughter, and kindness he shared so freely.
I am especially thankful to his mom for bringing such a wonderful soul into this world and raising a such a wonderful young man who touched so many hearts with his...

My heartfelt condolences and prayers are within the family of Mr.Dwayne. I loved him like a son and often told him he was well raised and I loved his leadership style and his eloquence manifested in his position at the Hammond Boys and Girls Club. I was a substitute at the Hammond Club for two weeks and was greeted by Mr Dwayne every day with love and appreciation and I requested to be transferred to his club because the atmosphere was so welcoming and he was loved by the children so much I...

It's not often you meet a young man his age that carried himself the way he did. He and I were more like associates. Our paths crossed at the Boys and Girls Club and he knew all about me but I didn't know much about him. From that introduction he and I hit it off because we love the Boys and Girls Club kids. He will never be forgotten.

Dwayne “Lil Man” Remel Washington, 38, of Merrillville, Indiana, passed away on October 24, 2025. He confessed his hope in Christ at an early age and lived a life rooted in faith, love, and service.
A proud graduate of Hammond High School, Class of 2005, Dwayne went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Communication from Purdue University Northwest in 2010, where he became a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Dwayne’s career reflected his passion for people and his commitment to his community. Over the years, he worked in various roles, including at Best Buy, Target, and as a Roulette Dealer for the Horseshoe Casino. He also served as a Board Operator for Power 92 and as a semi-truck driver for several companies. His greatest fulfillment came during his years with the Boys & Girls Club, where he rose from Program Director to Hammond Club Director and ultimately to Area Director—overseeing five clubs and impacting countless young lives.
A true entrepreneur at heart, Dwayne also found joy in being a DJ, artist, and business owner—most recently launching a successful lemonade venture. Known for his infectious smile, generous heart, and adventurous spirit, “Mr. Dwayne” brought light and laughter wherever he went. He was a true advocate for his Boys & Girls Club kids, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Dwayne was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Beatrice and Melvin Pennington Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Lottie Mae and Charlie Washington Sr.; and his oldest brother, Reggie Washington.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents, Eva and Charlie Washington Jr.; his twin brother, Jermaine (Dominique) Washington of Schererville, IN; his brother, Melvin Washington of Millington, TN; and his sister, Tashelle Gist of Gary, IN; along with his beloved nieces and nephews, and a host of family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
