Earl's Obituaries

     Earl R. Johnson, 66, of Evarts, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Baptist Health in Lexington. He was born October 6, 1952 in Kettle Island, KY. Earl was a retired coal miner having worked for the Warner Coal Company, Eastover and Manalapan Mining Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War, where he received the Bronze Star. Earl also served on the Board of the Evarts TV Company.       He is preceded in death by his parents, Marie Forrester Johnson Grubbs and Rice Johnson; his step-father, J.D. Grubbs and two brothers-in-law, Terry Toby and Warner C. “Hop“ McLain.      Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Sidney McLain Johnson, Evarts; one son, Jed Eric Johnson, and wife, Ashley Hicks Johnson, Georgetown, KY; one grandson, Wyler Nash Johnson; four brothers, Rice Johnson, Jr., Cumberland Gap, TN; Lloyd Johnson and wife, Phyllis, Salem, IN; Frank Ed Johnson and wife, Mona, Palmyra, IN; and Larry Grubbs and wife, Leah, Campbellsburg, IN; three sisters, Betty Johnson Colvin, Fourmile, KY; Lorene Johnson Hoskins, Pineville, KY; and Lois Johnson Toby, Jeffersonville, IN. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends including his fur buddies, Ralph and Trump.      Visitation will be held Saturday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home.      Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 3, 2019, at 1 pm at the Evarts Baptist Church with Pastor Donnie Adkisson and Pastor John Luttrell officiating.      Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Harlan Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.      Evarts Funeral Home is in charge of his arrangements.
