Earl's Obituary

On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, Earl Mayfield completed his earthly assignment and entered into the eternal presence of God.

Earl was preceded in death by his siblings, Slyvester, Jr., Pernell, Caulandus, Conell, Ella Mae, Shirley, and Linda.

Earl was born in Suffolk, Virginia, on March 22, 1944, to the late Sylvester and Alease Mayfield.

He attended Southwestern High School, Suffolk, VA. Earl married his high school sweetheart Constance Knight and from that union they had two sons, James (Jimmy), Lavar Tremayne (LT) and a daughter, Cassandra. Earl was a loving husband and father. He always strived to please his wife and be a good father to his children.

Earl was a hard worker. During his early years, Earl worked on the farm with his father, and Newport News Shipyard. Earl later relocated to Syracuse, NY and worked for Miller Brewery for 18 years. Later, Earl relocated to Winston Salem, NC. Earl continued his impeccable work ethic by working for Strolls Beer for five years and Douglas Battery for ten years. When Earl was visiting his Virginia home, he enjoyed fishing, hanging with his buddies and a good cookout.

He was also an avid bowler who found joy in fellowship and friendly competition.

Earl leaves to cherish his memories, his two sons, Jimmy (Celeste) and L.T. (Channel) his daughter, Cassandra; grandchildren, Oesii, Tremaine, Dominique, Brandon, Robert, Cintonio, Caiden, Lavar, Jr., and Nasiah. Three great-grand daughters, Olivi’ Anna, Ariana, and Amaya; two brothers, Daniel and Robert; two sisters, Everne Joe and Vivian Knight. Sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Earl was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend whose life was marked by strength, humility and love. His legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touced.
