Not sure what to say?

Edith Cayton truly a "virtuous woman". Still seeing her smile, hearing her laughter and missing her beauty. Her legacy lives on in her children, and grandchildren. Her memory lives on in her gardening, canning and culinary skills among the Fildew and Macedonia crews. Sending heavenly hugs to our girl "Ets" until we are all together again.

Dear Nelrita, My heart goes out to you. Our mothers are such a precious gift from God. You are in our prayers, dear sister. Love & Prayers,

Obituary

Edith's Obituary

Edith Cayton was born April 4, 1920 to the late Elizabeth (Martin) and Daniel W. Lumpkin in McComb, Mississippi. She was the only child of this union. Edith passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 18, 2012, with her family by her side. She confessed Christ at an early age before moving to Chicago, Illinois to live with her father and step mother, Lula.  It was in Chicago where she was educated in the Catholic School system. At the request of her aunt, she became pen pals with Nelson Cayton, while he was serving in Germany during World War II. This friendship later resulted in marriage on April 18, 1947.   While in Chicago, they had their first child Nelrita.  In 1952, they moved to Pontiac, Michigan.   It was then that she joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with her husband.Several years later she gave birth to twin girls (Teresa & Clarissa).  Edith was always an active participant in the local school PTA programs, and supported her children in all of their school, community, and church activities.  She believed strongly in a "hands-on" parenting approach and that parents should lead by example.  This is why she didn't believe in "sending" her children to a function for others to "baby-sit".Edith had a heart of gold, and would open her home to friends, family and anyone in need. She and her late husband were great gardeners, always sharing their fruits and vegetables with the people in and around the community.  She loved being around her grandchildren and participating in the activities with the Golden Opportunity Senior Club.  She never spoke negatively of anyone, and was known to many as the virtuous woman spoken of in Proverbs 31.  Edith always worked quietly behind the scene thru her children, husband, and Mission groups.  But at 83 years young, she decided to settle down and joined the Mother's Board of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Although her late husband Nelson Cayton preceeded her in death on June, 4, 1996, she leaves to rejoice in her memory her three daughters: Nelrita Diann Keller of Auburn Hills, Michigan; Teresa Moore (Lawrence Moore) of Southfield, Michigan; Clarissa Grigsby of Lake Orion, Michigan; three grandchildren, Amber Teresa Grigsby, Micah Nelson Cayton-Grigsby, and Shamen Zion Cayton-Grigsby; one brother-in- law Maurice (MC) Cayton of Chicago, Illinois;  and one sister-in-law, Irene Cayton of Detroit, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Home Going services for Sister Cayton will be held Friday May 25, 2012 at 11:00am at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church 512 Pearsall with Rev. Terrance Gowdy, Officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:30-11am  Friday at the church. Mrs. Cayton will lie in repose Thursday May 24, 2012 from 12 noon to 8pm at Cobb's Funeral Home.
