Edna Joan (Souza) Gagnon, a woman whose life was defined by love, creativity, and devotion to family, passed peacefully on November 4, 2025, at Grace Barker Health in Warren, Rhode Island, at the age of 92. Born on April 5, 1933, in Fall River, Massachusetts, Edna spent her years surrounded by family, friends, and the beauty she created through art and music. Edna found joy in the arts with her painting, piano playing, gardening, and time with her beloved pups, especially Mia. The gardens she cultivated with her husband Paul provided sanctuary not just for the two of them but for neighbors and friends who visited to enjoy the beauty and often left with a bouquet and a smile. Edna’s zest for life showed in her love of dance, especially the tango. She cherished her trips to Boston with her sister Louise and brother-in-law Buddy, where the three would spend evenings immersed in the rhythms of tango, sharing laughter and creating happy memories. She treasured time spent with her family, finding solace in their presence and creating lasting bonds that will endure beyond her lifetime. Edna leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul (Leopold) Gagnon; her parents, John & Elvina (Roderick) Souza; her brother, Arnold Souza; sisters, Julie Pimental and Avis Paulo; niece, Jane Souza; nephew, James “Jimmy” Pimental; Paul’s sister, Therese Gagnon Rioux and her husband Arthur L. Rioux; niece, Patrice Bunn; and nephew, Arthur Rioux. Edna is survived by her son, Don Gagnon; her daughter, Lisa Gagnon, and wife, Cheryl Small; her sisters, Louise and husband John “Buddy” Rogers, and Ellie and husband Ernie Mercer; her nieces and nephews: Gina Paulo, Ava Paulo-Stanly, John and Lisa Rogers, Beth Rogers, Kristen Rogers, David Souza, and Jeffry Souza; her brother-in-law Rudolph “Rudi” Gagnon and his wife Christine Gagnon; nieces Celeste Gagnon, Rachelle Rioux, and Paula Rioux; nephews Roger Rioux and Peter Rioux. Edna and her family are deeply grateful to the nurses and staff at Grace Barker Health in Warren, Rhode Island, whose kindness, compassion, and attentive care brought comfort and peace to Edna in her final days. Edna & her family will be forever grateful for the comfort and company provided to her by her Continuum Care team, especially Jane Wilson, her hospice volunteer who visited weekly and provided video chats for Lisa to visit her mom remotely. Jane was much more than a hospice volunteer—she quickly became a dear family friend. The family also wishes to thank Stephanie, Edna’s music therapist and hospice volunteer, whose visits filled Edna’s days with the joy of music she so deeply loved. Edna and her family found great comfort and peace in the compassionate care provided by her Continuum Care team, whose support and kindness eased her final days and brought solace to all who loved her In the hearts of those who knew and loved her, Edna's spirit will continue to shine brightly.
