Edward Austin Boatwright
May 29th, 1934 – August 23rd, 2025
Edward Austin Boatwright, Jr., 91, entered his eternal home Saturday, August 23rd, 2025. Born in Marion, SC, He was the son of the late Edward Austin Boatwright, Sr. & Beulah Deaver Boatwright.
Austin, as he was known by friends, was a graduate of Marion high school & attended the USC School of Commerce. He served as a sergeant in the National Guard & enjoyed his work for the SC Highway Department where he worked 36 years. During his time with the SCDOT he was selected as Resident Maintenance Engineer of the year six times. He was a member of the SC Society of Engineers and served as President & Vice President of the District 5 Credit Union. In addition, he served as a State Board Member of the SC Employees Association & helped to startup the Adopt-A-Highway program in Marion County and received a Distinguished Service award for his efforts. During his lifetime he was a proud serving member of the Marion Presbyterian Church & Marion Baptist Church.
Surviving are his children, Steven Earl Boatwright (Julia) of Myrtle Beach & Katherine Boatwright Flowers (Marshall) of Darlington; his four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Patricia Foxworth Boatwright, and his sister Bobbie Boatwright McRae.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation for the loving caregivers and wonderful staff at the Hospice House in Florence, SC.
A graveside service will be held at Rosehill Cemetery, Marion, SC on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025, at 2 O’clock.
