My deepest sympathy Karl. I know how much you cared for your Dad and I know he will be missed. I remember how kind you were to me when my mom was so sick. I hope you find comfort knowing that he is resting in peace.

Edward W. Burnitz, 88, of DeKalb, Illinois, formerly of Carpentersville, died Thursday, December 22, 2011, in DeKalb.
Born April 12, 1923, in Chicago, the son of Rudolph and Carla (Nielsen) Burnitz, he married Lucille J. Scheuring in Salem, Ohio.
Ed was employed for 29 years as a bus driver for the Chicago Transit Authority. He was a former elder at First Congregational Church of Christ in Carpentersville.
A lifetime member of the Anzio Invasion Organization, he was a veteran of the 45th Army Infantry in World War II, where he was awarded the Purple Heart, two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star and numerous other medals and ribbons. He was a two-year president for the Disable Veterans Organization in Elgin. He is survived by his children, Karl E. (Phyllis) Burnitz of Sycamore and Karen Lee Caron of Eastpointe, Michigan; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; parents; and four brothers, Walter, Robert, Clarence and Raymond.
The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. April 12 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Ellwood, with full military honors.
