Edward's Obituary

Edward “Eddie” Koballa, 86, of Dawson, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023. Eddie was born Sept. 24, 1936, in Juniata and was raised in South Connellsville. He was the son of the late George and Susan (Knapp) Koballa.

Eddie graduated from Connellsville High School with the Class of 1954 and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1955, serving for four years. He worked at Anchor Hocking Cap Plant in South Connellsville from 1960  to 1970, where he met his wonderful wife, Dook. He started working in the coal mines in 1970, from where he retired. Eddie was a hard worker and a perfectionist in everything he did, working hard at his jobs, keeping his house neat, and his yard was always immaculately manicured. He enjoyed gardening, doing crossword and sudoku puzzles, and watching sports on TV. Eddie was an avid fan of all sports, but especially loved watching the Steelers, Penguins, St. Louis Cardinals, Pitt and Golf. He traveled to many cities to watch the Steelers play when he was a member of a Steeler Club with friends. He was a great golfer and loved golfing with his buddies at Timber Ridge and Linden Hall golf vourses.

Eddie will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his loving family, including his daughters, Michele (Virgil) Kunz and Lori (Robert) Hodge; his stepdaughters, he loved as his own, Margie (Charles) Logan and Susie (Charles) Peperak; his daughter-in-law, Renee Hone; his 13 grandchildren; and his 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores “Dook” (Lint) Koballa (Jan. 17, 2017) with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 4, 2016; his stepson, David Hone; his grandson, David Hone II; his granddaughter, Gabrielle Peperak; and his brother, Robert Koballa.
