It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Edward John Poltonowicz Sr. He died peacefully on October 2nd, in his home, with his wife at his side, at the age of 74. Born in Hackensack New Jersey, to Edward and Julia Poltonowicz, and raised in Bristol Pennsylvania, Ed spent his adult years in Levittown Pa and Spring Hill Florida.“Big Ed” as he was known to most, was a man of many interests and achievements. As a young man he discovered public service as a boy-scout and volunteered as a water-rescue scuba diver, EMT and eventual President and Life Member of the Levittown Fairless Hills Rescue Squad. Ed was committed to the values of teamwork and sportsmanship, and many area residents will remember him as the Umpire Chief / President of Levittown American Little League, as President of Levittown Babe Ruth, or as the founder of Levittown Mens Softball League. Others still, may remember him as a businessman. He was the owner of Ed's Electronics and Allied TV. His love for photography eventually led to him becoming co-owner of Bucks County Photo and his skill behind the camera will be remembered by over 500 lucky couples whose wedding he photographed. For two decades he hosted Santa's Workshop on Mill Street in Bristol, photographing thousands of children sharing their Christmas wishes with Santa.Ed served as an “Angel” to patients of Gastric Bypass surgery, mentoring in both Bucks County and Spring Hill. He achieved 4th degree status, along with his three sons, and volunteered as treasurer of Knights of Columbus Council #4215. He also had a strong desire to preserve our community's history and spent many years curating thousands of historic photos of Lower Bucks County. He received an award for Historic Preservation for his work in restoring a 19th century building in Bristol Borough. His hobbies were numerous: model plane building, bonsai gardening, building koi fish ponds, coin collecting, teaching computer classes. It is hard to find something that Ed could not find excitement pursuing. And in each Ed, excelled, often becoming the local expert. In more recent years, Ed became passionate about growing plumerias and orchids, and playing accordion at the local club and with his friends. However, Ed was always happiest when spending time with his family. On many an evening you could find him dancing the night away with his wife Regina at the local Polish Club. His loved ones will never forget his enjoyment of family vacations and cruises, giving horsey-rides, on Pop Pop's back, to his grandchildren, or talking politics with his sons and daughter.Ed is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Regina, his children Edward Jr. (Lyn), Nancy (Ron) and David (Rini) and his grandchildren, Devon, Chase and Grant. He is preceded in death by his son John, his mother Julia and his father, Edward.Family and friends are invited to call from 1 until 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 16 at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown.
