EDWARD PETER SOLTESZ, age 101, of Lakewood, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 12, 2025, following a brief stay in hospice care. Born on July 25, 1924, in Lakewood to Mike and Frances Soltesz, Edward was a lifelong resident of the city he loved and called home.
He attended Sts. Cyril and Methodius Grade School and graduated from Lakewood High School. During World War II, Ed proudly served his country as a pilot in the United States Army Air Forces from 1943 to 1946. His love for flying continued long after the war—he later owned his own airplane and taught others to fly. Time spent in the air brought him tremendous joy and remained one of the great passions of his life.
After returning home, Ed began a 35-year career as an electrician with the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company. Known for his steady work ethic and meticulous craftsmanship, he was respected by colleagues and friends alike. Even while working full-time, Ed volunteered his evenings and weekends at St. Andrew Abbey print shop where he shared his passion for printing and his commitment to helping others.
Ed built a warm and welcoming home with his wife of 56 years, Mary (nee Badovinac) Soltesz, and their son, Edward G. Soltesz, M.D. His greatest joy was his family—especially his son, daughter-in-law Deirdre (nee O’Brien) Soltesz, and his three beloved grandchildren, Grace Marie, Edward Paul (“Teddy”), and Maeve Deirdre Soltesz. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Steve, Mike, and Frank; and his sister, Anne.
A lifelong parishioner of St. Clement Catholic Church in Lakewood, Ed’s faith guided every aspect of his life. He will be remembered for his kind spirit, his steady hands, and his love for family.
Mass of Christian Burial Monday, October 20, St. Luke the Evangelist Church (1212 Bunts Rd.) at 10:00 AM.
