Edward Weaver was born in Bordentown City on August 8, 1931, to Irene (Gaskill) Weaver and Edmund Weaver, respectively of Bordentown and Fieldsboro, New Jersey. Edward grew up surrounded by an extensive family network — his father was one of fourteen children, and at one time, Weavers could be found on nearly every street in Fieldsboro, with a few scattered throughout Bordentown City and Township.
He is survived by his daughter, Valerie (Weaver) Sassaman, and her husband, Dean Sassaman; and his favorite granddaughter, Heather Hadley. He is also survived by his special and close friend, Lois Cheney, with whom he shared many years of companionship and travel.
Edward was predeceased by his wife, Winifred (Sanford) Weaver; his brother, Jerome Weaver, and sister-in-law, Phyllis Weaver; and his sister, Audrey (Weaver) Yanes, and brother-in-law, Tib Yanes. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jackie (Weaver) Evans; nephew, Ronnie Yanes; niece, Sherri (Weaver) Torres; and sister-in-law, Ann (Sanford) Weaver, wife of the late Kenneth Weaver; along with nephew, Christopher Weaver.
He is lovingly remembered by his brother, Bryce Weaver and his wife Fran; along with many nieces and nephews — Kathy (Weaver) Jerome and her husband, Dennis; Linda Weaver (Florida); Vanessa Weaver (Florida); DeeAnn (Yanes) Cline and her husband, Warren; James Weaver and his wife, Stephanie; Billy Evans and RoseMarie Weaver; Ellen Weaver and Patrick Coyle (Philadelphia); Gareth Weaver (New Hampshire); John Weaver and his wife, Sharon; and Rita Weaver, wife of the late Donald Weaver. He also leaves behind many extended family members and close friends.
A Life Remembered Edward was the oldest of five children and was often said to be his mother’s favorite.
He grew up in Bordentown City, spending his youth on Thompson, Mary, and Second Streets. Edward served in the National Guard and later worked at Roebling Steel before building a long career with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.
After retirement, Edward and his wife, Winifred, enjoyed countless adventures together — road trips to Florida and Canada, Starr Bus excursions, and even journeys to Las Vegas and Hawaii. In later years, he continued traveling with his dear friend, Lois Cheney, who shared his love of exploring.
Edward had a lifelong passion for baseball and football, with an occasional interest in basketball when there was no good baseball or football game to watch. He loved old black-and-white Westerns and going out to dinner at his favorite local restaurants. Among his lifelong pleasures were placing bets at the horse track and trips to Atlantic City.
Services for Edward will be 11am on Thursday October 30 at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ. A visitation with the family will be from 10 am until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Bordentown Cemetery, Bordentown Township
