Erickson family, my parents told me of Ed's passing. I remember Ed working at the Coop and his smile. Laury, thinking of you especially, as I knew you the most (we played basketball together in high school). Oh, dear Lois, So sad to hear of Ed's passing. He was always so kind and had a twinkle in his eye and a grin on his face. I think the twinkle was from heaven, as Ed lived a life of love and faith with you. Blessings to you and your family. Thank God there is a much, much better place. Edwin "Ed"'s Obituaries

Edwin C. “Ed” Erickson, Jr., 64, of Maynard, Iowa passed away on Saturday morning, January 13, 2018 with his family at his side at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

Funeral Service:  10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Westgate, Iowa with Rev. Herbert C. Mueller, III., officiating.

Visitation: 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Maynard and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Interment: St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Westgate, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the Maynard Fire Department, St. Peter Lutheran Church or the Hillcrest Home.

Edwin Clifford Erickson, Jr. was born July 2, 1953 at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein, Iowa the son of Edwin Clifford and Charlotte Erna (Schrader) Erickson.  He was baptized August 9, 1953 at Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein, by the Rev. H. E. Dieter and was confirmed on March 19, 1967 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Maynard, by the Rev. Arnold Thalacker.  On November 4, 1972, Ed was united in marriage to Lois Elaine Gordon at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Westgate, by the Rev. Lloyd Bickel.  Ed and Lois were blessed with a daughter, Laury, and a son, Mykel. 

Ed attended and graduated from West Central High School, Maynard, in 1972.  He began working at the Maynard Cooperative (now Viafield) in June 1972 and was still employed by them.  He did several different jobs while employed at the Coop, but mainly was a semi-tractor trailer driver for the majority of his years.  In 1974, Ed was recruited to join the Maynard Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter and was proud to still be a member of the department.

Ed was so proud of his children and grandchildren.  He loved spending as much time as he could with them and that became one of his favorite things to do.  Ed was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate and the Maynard Fire Department.  He also enjoyed riding around in his 1988 Corvette, keeping his vehicles and semi clean, yardwork, and making people laugh and smile.

Ed is survived by his wife: Lois Erickson of Maynard;

Daughter: Laury (Rick) Shonka of Oelwein;

Son: Mykel (Ashley) Erickson of Ely;

4 Grandchildren:  Kaelyn and Kasen Erickson & Lincoln and Madison Shonka;

2 Brothers: Thomas (Judy) Erickson of Independence &

Harry (Diane) Erickson of Elkader;

3 sisters: Caroline (Roger) Frederick of Marion,

Charlene (Robert) Fairchild of Altoona &

Jetty Mae Larson of Decorah;

Brother-in-law: Lyle (Julie) Gordon of Westgate;

2 Sisters-in-law: Cleo Erickson of St. James, Minnesota &

Cathie Gordon of Independence;

and many nieces and nephews who loved their uncle Ed.

Ed was preceded in death by his father; mother; brother: John Erickson; sister: Mary Shimek; parents-in-law: Donald and Irma Gordon; 3 brothers-in-law: Jimmy Shimek, Russel Larson and Larry Gordon; 2 nephews: Paul Erickson and Scott Gordon.
