Obituary

Edwin's Obituary

Edwin Hillard Gilbertson Jr., age 64 of Markesan, passed away unexpectedly early on Friday, February 16, 2018, at his home.

Ed was born on January 29, 1954, in Casper, WY, son of Edwin and Frances (Cox) Gilbertson, Sr. He was a foreman and master welder at Brenner Tank in Fond du Lac, WI, until 1996. Ed suffered a long and debilitating illness and was about to go back into hospice care when he was called home. In his day, he was an excellent cook, loved music such as David Bowie, Pink Floyd and other oldies but goodies. He was a second shift guy and loved going out with the guys after work for a few beers in Fond du Lac, “In Heaven there is no beer, that’s why we drink it here.” Ed enjoyed riding horses and his dogs. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the farm in Markesan and New Year’s Eve parties with friends in Milwaukee.

Ed is survived by a sister, Ardyth (Al Thomas) Gilbertson of Sheperdstown, WV; two nephews, Jesse (Leslie) Boyd and Mitch Brager; two nieces, Jenny Brager and Brittany Brager; a great nephew, Vogun Boyd; a brother-in-law, Todd (Cathy) Brager of Lindenhurst, IL; many cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dawn (Gilbertson) Brager.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Any memorials may be directed to Hospice Hope-Agnesian, 745 South Street, Suite 4, Green Lake, WI, 54941.

The family would like to thank Hospice Hope-Agnesian, Tyler Moderow and Kristin Bostad for their care and compassion for Ed. They would also like to thank many good souls in Markesan at Piggly Wiggly, Farmer’s State Bank, local Pharmacy and Doctor Ross Hazelwood and staff who helped and supported him in his final days.

May he forever rest in peace, through God’s grace and love.
