Mr. Edwin Page (Pete) Rogers, Jr., 76, died on May 5, 2025, at his home in Mullins, South Carolina, with his beloved wife of 43 years by his side. Mr. Rogers was born on July 2, 1948, in Mullins, a son to the late Edwin Page (EP) Rogers, Sr. and the late Alta Jean Smith Rogers.
Mr. Rogers was a graduate of Mullins High School. He graduated from Clemson University in 1972 with a B.A in Political Science. He put that degree to good use, having had a long and distinguished career in county and municipal administration, budgeting, planning, and economic development. He worked with the Pee Dee Regional Council of Government from 1972 until 1989. He then served as Director of Planning and Economic Development for Marion County (1989-94), County Administrator for Marion County (1994-07), City Planner for Mullins, SC (2007-2008), followed by service as City Administrator (2008-11), after which he retired. After “retirement” he acted as a consultant for various municipalities, including serving as administration consultant for the Town of Pamplico from 2015 until 2022.
Mr. Rogers was appointed by the Marion County Legislative Delegation to serve on the Marion County Hospital Board from 2005-2010 and then subsequently as a member of the Marion County Health Care Foundation from 2010-2025.
Pete is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann; his sons Edwin Page (Chip) Rogers, III (Laura) and their children, Ben and Caroline Dixon, of Clayton, North Carolina, and John Michael Rogers (Mary Elizabeth) and their children, Julian Max and Aurelia Estelle, of Conway, South Carolina; his sisters: Dr. Margaret Dale Rogers and Dr. Mary Gayle Rogers of Athens, Georgia; a brother-in-law, Dr. Paul Anthony (Tony) Dobosh (Judy) of South Hadley, Massachusetts; his longtime and valued friends, C.H. “Bo” Fowler, Jr. of Mullins, and Clifton Kirby Jordan of Florence, SC; and his two dogs of great distinction, Ralphy and Poppy. He was predeceased by an infant brother, Julian Maurice Rogers, and by his childhood friend, Dan Pridgen.
The family’s appreciation is extended to the Patriot Hospice, its director Dr. James Carroll, and the nurses and staff who served him so well during his illness
The family will receive friends at the home at 1918 Millers Road in Mullins on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the charity of one’s choice.
