On Thursday January 18, 2018, Pastor Sampson Womack departed this life to go on to be with the Lord. Pastor Sampson was born January 16, 1923 in Pitts County, Va to Nathanial and Almeter WomackAs a child his parents instilled in him a sense of hard work and love for the Lord. While in Pitts County he became an Elder under Bishop A.M. Towler of St. John One Accord Holiness Church. After faithfully serving under Bishop Towler and Bishop James Williams for some time, Sampson was called to pastor his own church, Macedonia One Accord Holiness Church. In following his call to pastor, he also felt the need to give his family a fresh start by moving to Newport News, VA. In the fall of 1959, Macedonia opened its doors for worship in Hampton Va, on Armstead Ave with just 10 members that were mostly comprised of his family. Pastor Sampson or Elder Womack which is what most people affectionately called him, went on to pastor Macedonia for 30 years before handing over the leadership and responsibility to his daughter, Pastor Janice Chapman. Whether it was sharing his wisdom or just being a mentor, Pastor Sampson continued to do work for the Lord. It was through his faithfulness, consistency and discipline in his service to God that many of his children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren became involved in ministry. He was married to Amy Womack until her death. In 1978, he married Mittie Sarah Womack. He loved his family very much and always took time to help train the younger generations to take over the reins as he knew his legacy would continue through them. Preceding him in death are: his father; Nathanial; mother, Almeter; wife, Amy Womack, sisters, Addie Roher, Atris Williams; and son, Ronnie Womack. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Mother Mittie Sarah Womack; children, Roger (Mary), Sanford Womack, Overseer Janice Chapman (James), Bobby Womack, David Womack, Danny Ray Womack (Teresa), Joyce Hall, Ruth Womack (daughter-in-law), Bobby Butler (Hydia), Donyound DeBraux (Curtis), Sylvia Raniey (Mark), and Vickie Byrd (Wilford); one sister, Stella Corbin; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Viewing will be held 12:00 noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Jaunary 26, 2018 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A celebration of Pastor Womack life will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, at New Hope Baptist Church, 1415 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, Virginia. The Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
