Eldon's Obituary

Eldon Lee Shoffner, 90, formerly of Burkburnett, Texas died August 13, 2025, in Denton, Texas.

Mr. Shoffner was born June 6, 1935 in Maplewood, Ohio to Joseph Alonso Shoffner and Josie V. (Peacock) Shoffner.  Lee married Beverly J. Snell, February 4, 1961 in St. Johns, Indiana and spent most of the 64 years they were married together, except when he was deployed overseas or for TDY.  

He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years in March 1980 as a Chief Master Sergeant from the Department of Field Training Headquarters, Sheppard AFB, Texas.  He then worked as an Air Force Civil Service Technical Training Advisor for 17 years, retiring as a GS-13 in October 1997 at Sheppard AFB.

Lee had a remarkable career in the Air Force, with assignments as Field Training Instructor on B-52 and KC-135 aircraft at Mather AFB, California; C-5A aircraft Instructor at Dover AFB, Delaware, Crew Chief on C-130 aircraft in Vietnam; and Maintenance Training Manager for the very first 2954th Combat Logistic Support Unit at Kelly AFB, Texas.  He was a member of 9th Air Force Inspector General Team, Shaw AFB, South Carolina; Chief of Wing Training  4th Tactical Fighter Wing, Seymour-Johnson AFB, North Carolina. 

Lee was very proud to be Commandant of the 21st Air Force Professional Military Education Leadership School and to serve as Field Training Manager for the KC-135, KC-10, B1B, and E-4 aircraft as well as Instructor, Curriculum Manager, and Training Advisor for 3762nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, SAFB, Texas.

Mr. Shoffner received numerous military and civilian achievement awards.  He utilized his education, skills, and experience to improve the functions of the various organizations to which he was assigned.  He was a behind-the-scenes volunteer and gave generously of his time and money to many organizations in Burkburnett, Sheppard AFB, and Wichita Falls.  

As life member of the Air Force Association, Lee served at the local, state and national levels.  He was also a life member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and Disabled American Veterans.  In addition to service-related organizations, Lee was an active member of International Toastmasters with an ATM rating; was an Endowed Life 50-year member of the Burkburnett Masonic Lodge, and Fort Worth Scottish Rite 32nd Degree member, holding several positions within the lodge.  He was a recipient of the prestigious Golden Trowel Masonic Award for his duties and service over the years.  

Lee earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, degrees in Human Services and Real Estate.  He was a licensed Realtor for 20 years.

Mr. Shoffner was a proud resident of Burkburnett for over 40 years.  He enjoyed fishing, dominoes, being with friends, and especially spending time with his best buddies, grandsons Mark Jr. and Kyle and great-granddaughter Remington.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Beverly Shoffner of Denton; daughter, Brenda K. Jaskulske and her husband Mark Sr. of Corinth, Texas; grandsons, Mark Jr. and his wife Lou of Rhome, Texas, and Kyle Jaskulske of Austin; and great-granddaughter, Remington Jaskulske of Rhome, Texas.  Also surviving are his nephew, Roger Shoffner and his niece, Candy Parke, both of Ohio, and many friends in Burkburnett and across the country.

Memorials may be made to Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas.
