Elidia's Obituary

Elidia P. Sousa – Of Cambridge, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 26. She was 95 years old. Born and raised in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Pedro and Maria (dos Anjos Ponte) de Sousa. Elidia was a hardworking woman who always made sure her family was cared for. She loved being a mother, and especially a grandmother, roles she cherished deeply and fulfilled with great devotion. Time spent with her family brought her immeasurable joy. Elidia also enjoyed the simple pleasure of doing word searches, a pastime that brought her calm and contentment. A deeply religious woman, she was devoted to her faith and her beloved parish, St. Anthony’s in Somerville. She was a proud member of the choir and an active participant in the parish prayer group. Through her involvement, she formed many close and lasting bonds, considering her parish community an extension of her family. Elidia will be remembered for her unwavering love, her faith, and her generous spirit. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Beloved mother of the late Celina Hanson and her surviving husband Mark of NH, and the late Carlos Pombeiro and his surviving wife Latisha of Medford. Cherished and loving grandmother of Shaina Licker of Tewksbury. Dear sister of Mariana Costa of Medford and the late Lina Giesta, and Jose Sousa. Also lovingly survived by her bonus daughter Liz Caetano and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Anthony Church, 400 Cardinal Medeiros Ave, Cambridge, MA 02141 on SATURDAY December 20th at 10:00AM.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

If you are sending flowers, please have them delivered directly to church.
