Elizabeth Ann Grier, MA, LPC, CPSS, CRMC

 

Elizabeth Ann Grier passed away February 24, 2026, at the age of 71. She was an accomplished academic. She loved providing peer service counseling to her community and was a subcontracted counselor for the state of Michigan

 

Elizabeth was born in Ryukyu Islands, Okinawa (Japan) in 1954, and lived in Detroit, Michigan from the age of 2 through adulthood. She attended Trinity College in New Haven for her undergraduate studies in Intercultural & International Studies. She later attended Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan for her Master's degree in Counseling Psychology and Education Sciences. She also received counseling certificates as part of her post graduate accomplishments.

 

While in college her penchant for reading and writing provided a creative outlet for her and she excelled as a local poet, even managed to have her own radio show for a while, the Black Pearl.

She resided in Detroit and continued physical and mental rehabilitation; her life was a struggle from the age of 9 when she was diagnosed with nephritis (severe kidney disease). She was a counselor at Ennis Center for Children Inc. and sole proprietor of Fayna T Counseling Services

 

She was an active member of Veron Chapel Church since 1984, attended Sunday School and Bible Study. She also conducted at least one Mental Health Seminar as well

 

Elizabeth traveled to Liberia, then later moved to Berkeley, Ca for a few years but eventually returned back to Detroit, later into the Aiesha Group Home and lived the rest of her years there until her death.

 

Besides writing poetry, she loved jazz and classical music, and he was an accomplished pianist. Friends and family members remember her commitment to human rights and social justice.

 

She is survived by her brother Geoffrey Clayton Grier, nephew Gillian Crushshon Grier of San Francisco, younger brother David Alan Grier, her niece Luisa Dambi Grier-Kim of Los Angeles, and a host of cousins.

Family and friends will remember her and celebrate her life at a Memorial Service, Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 12:00 pm at the Vernon Chapel Church, 18500 Norwood St.,  Detroit, Mi 48234.
