Obituary

Elmore's Obituary

Mr. Elmore Junior Jones, Sr., was born to the late Pleasant and Mattie Sue Bennett Jones, to this union they had nine children together. He graduated from Old Mecklenburg Training School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Saint Paul’s College, followed by a master’s from Virginia State University.

Mr. Jones was a fervent member of Lambert’s Chapel R.Z.U.A. Church.  He served faithfully as the Superintendent of Sunday School, a deacon, the Pastor’s Steward, and the church treasurer. He was also a choir member and a Sunday School teacher.

Mr. Jones was a devout member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., and a Mason. He was married to the late Margaret Townes for forty-nine years and to this union three children were born, the late Rita Jones, Elmore J. Jones, Jr., and Elvia J. Boadi. He also had four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and he played a significant role in raising his devoted niece, Constance Suber.

Mr. Jones was also survived by two brothers, Deacon Alpheus Lee Jones and Gilbert L. Jones. He was an exceptional husband, father, teacher, counselor, and role model to many, touching the lives of thousands. He will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of his life will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, September 12, 2025 at Lambert's Chapel R.Z.U.A. Church, 87 Snowbird Road, South Hill, Virginia with Rev. Julia Fields, pastor officiating and Minister Melvin Rainey eulogizing.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will be from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
