I remember Emil fondly, He went to St. Mary's school in Breckenridge. Always was nice. Sad to hear of his passing. But, I was happy to know he had a wonderful family and a great life. My sympathy to his family.

Emil was a quiet, soft-spoken, gentle boy in my class at St Mary’s School in Breckenridge, MN. I didn’t realize we were born on the same day. I wondered where he disappeared to in high school & now I know. It sounds like he had a very successful, happy life. Please accept my condolences on the loss of your husband, father, & grandfather.

Sonny was my brother in law married to my twin sister, last summer had the opportunity to go visit with them, he was our driver taking us to all the parks in southern Utah, it was a special time, so happy I took the time go down and visit them, I guess a person never knows what the future will bring. Rest in peace Sonny.

“Sonny”
Emil was born on February 21, 1947, 10th of 15 children in Breckenridge Mn to Emil Gustive and Josephine Frances (Barina) Stach.
At 17 he quit school and had his parents sign for him to go into the Army. While in the Army he got his GED. In the army he went to school for helicopter maintenance. He loved helicopters, he could hear them coming a mile away. He had three tours in Vietnam and was in a few hard helicopter landings that messed up his lower back.
We married in July 1968, he then went back to Vietnam to finish the 6 months he had left on that tour. Our first base we lived at was Savannah GA, then Fort Hood Tx, where Bradley came along. Then he went back to Vietnam for one more year. When he came home, we went to Fort Bragg, NC. Then to ElPaso TX, and then to Kitzingen Germany. Which was nice to be settled for three years without moving. Next was Fort Eustis VA for 4 years, where Jason came along, then to Nuremberg Germany for 4 years and finally Fort Campbell KY where he decided it was time to retire and we chose Utah for home. We loved the mountains so couldn’t go back to flat Minnesota.
He loved going to Pinedale, WY to visit his brother, John & and sister-in-law Shirley. They spend many days fishing or hunting deer, antelope, or in the mountains for looking elk. Some of his favorite things was to travel in his Corvette and take beautiful scenic pictures with his digital Nikon camera. He loved astronomy and would take his telescope and the grandkids and show them the stars.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara. His sons, Bradley, wife Esther and grands Alexa, Ashley and William, son Jason and his wife Trisa, and grands Carson and Cheyenne.
Four sisters, Fern, Shirley, Gloria and Fran, many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Emil and Josephine, his mother and father in laws Oliver and Ruby Dahlgren, 10 brothers and sisters, grandmothers and grandfathers on both sides of the family. He was dearly loved by all of us and will be forever in our hearts!
