A native of Baton Rouge, he passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Lane Regional Medical Center. He was 85 and a retired commercial construction superintendent. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. His hobbies were deer hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Anna Hernandez, Baker; daughter, Linda Guidroz and husband Jimmy, of Zachary; son, Emmanuel J. Hernandez and Francis Hooper, of Baker; daughter, Joan Mattina and husband Dean, Biloxi, Miss.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary. Visiting at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Zachary, on Monday, July 11, from 12:30 p.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 2:30 p.m., celebrated by the Rev. M. Jeffery Bayhi. Burial in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Ruby and Preston Brown; father, Emmanuel Hernandez; and brother, Edward Gross. Pallbearers will be Dusty Hernandez, Dean James Mattina I, Dean James Mattina II, Brian Boudreaux, Robin Partin and Carlton Spears. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care given by Dr. Ruben Fabrega and Gail Infusion staff at Ochsner, O'Neil Lane, Grace Nursing Home, Clinton and Lane Regional Medical Center, Zachary. He will be greatly missed.
