Every now and then, once in a generation, someone comes along that gives new meaning to family. That person is Enid White, who passed away on February 22, 2026 surrounded by the Loves of her life… Her family.
She was the epitome of the American Way of life having been born in Puerto Rico on June 1, 1945. She came to the United States as a child and settled in the Brooklyn with her family.
After meeting her husband, Robert White, a US Navy veteran, who served proudly on the submarine Dogfish, she settled in Groton, where she raised her family of three children. She worked for the State of Connecticut Social Services for over two decades and then continued her employment with TVCCA.
She was so proud of her children and her homeland of Puerto Rico and always was grateful to live in this wonderful country. While each of her three kids had their own children, she helped raise each of them dedicating her time and life to helping each family grow.
She loved to dance, especially to Latin music and her favorite band, El GranCombo in concert. She was able to meet her favorite stars, such as Tom Selleck on the set of Blue Bloods, David Ortiz, Bernie Williams, and Marc Anthony. She even got a special birthday call from her teenage crush, James Darin, and Tony Orlando, who affectionately called her his Mamita.
But the real stars in her life were her family, affectionately known as Grams, Abuela, Auntie and Emom. She loved watching them play sports and cheering them on with the loudest voice in the crowd. Her distinctive voice was both a microphone and a loudspeaker all in one.
Her favorite things to do to pass the time was take a ride to the casino to play her favorite slots, enjoy a good dinner out, watch the Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and old westerns. Back in the day she enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, family cookouts, Sunday breakfast gatherings at her house and playing Mahjong. A deeply devoted Catholic, she put people in her daily prayers and lived the life God imagined for her. And now, after living a wonderful life, she can celebrate the reunion with her loved ones, where she can rest in Peace Forever.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert White, parents Felix and Lydia Feliciano and sister Nancy de la Cruz and brothers in law Lorenzo dela Cruz, Anthony White and Pedro Cortez. She is survived by her son Mark (Francine) White of Warwick, daughter Anissa (Tom) Cantone of Noank, and daughter Maria (James) White of Ledyard. Her grandchildren Nicholas de la Cruz, Briana White, Brandon de la Cruz, Seth White, Anissa Ross, Andrew White, Tessa Cantone and 3 great-grandchildren, Raegan, Jordyn, and Alliyah. She had a special bond with her sister-in-law Judith White and her nieces and nephews, Lorenzo dela Cruz, David delaCruz, Christopher delaCruz, Anita delaCruz, Jennifer Balalta, Leslie Andes, Anthony White, Kevin White, June Nunes and Tommy Quintin. Her dearest friends were like her sisters, Shirley Cortez, Francine Castro, Alice Munyan, and Carmen Morales.
