To the Schelin family my name is Todd, A Friend in Oklahoma, and I just learned about Eric‘s passing and I’m in shocked saddness.
I want to share my condolences with you all. Eric was a bright light and a very special man. He had his share of challenges, like we all do, but I can’t believe he’s no longer with us. I’m so sorry

Eric was our neighbor in Tulsa. He was a most considerate, friendly and a wonderful neighbor. Charlie and I extend our sincere condolences to his entire family. We visited with Eric on many occasions and he spoke so lovely of his parents and family. Lost too soon We will keep him and his family in our prayers. We fondly remember the New Year’s Eve when our back lawn caught fire (another neighbor shot off cherry bomb that lit up our grass. Eric annd his roommate ended up helping us...

ERIC RUSSELL SCHELIN
MAY 5,1976-MARCH 18, 2024
Eric Russell Schelin, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend to all passed away suddenly in Portland, Oregon. A severe asthma attack and cardiac arrest took our huge smile from us.
Eric was born to Ken and Kathy Schelin on May 5, 1976, in Butte Montana. He grew up in Walkerville with his sister and best friend, Dana, and many cousins and friends. He attended Kennedy Elementary, Butte High School and Montana Tech, graduating with honors.
Eric started working at a young age, beginning with yard work, a paper route, odd jobs and waiting tables. He worked at the S&L Ice Cream Parlor in high school and then moved on to bartending at the Double Eagle Casino and then General Manager of the Treasure Chest casino.
Eric moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2000 where he worked full time as a contract negotiator at Williams Communications while attending the University of Tulsa College of Law. He received his Juris Doctorate Degree with honors in 2002. He was also awarded the Student Bar Associations Presidents award. After receiving his degree Eric began his law career with the Frederic Dorwart firm of Tulsa. He recently moved to Oregon and joined a new start up firm in Portland.
Eric was an accomplished attorney, pilot, sailor and entrepreneur. He enjoyed the lake, socializing and spending time with family and friends. Eric began traveling at a young age. He went to Germany while in High school, New York and later in life to Venezuela and just about every state in the union. He was adventurous, the life of the party and always had the biggest smile.
He is survived by his parents Ken and Kathy Schelin, grandfather Bob Velvick, sister Dana Schelin and her children Abby and Ethan Rice, uncles and aunts, Tony and Kathy Jangula, Diane Jangula, Joe and Debbie Rask, Joe Jangula and Kellie Parini, Fred and Dicie Jangula, Jim and Barb Scott and Joe Pesanti. He also leaves the Schelin family, a multitude of cousins and friends including those with a special place in his heart, Heather Martzolf and son Gavin Bridges and Daniel Hernandez.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Tony and Donna Jangula, Doreen Velvick, Myron Schelin, uncle Charley Jangula and aunts Debbie McLaughlin and Cathy Pesanti.
A memorial service for Eric will be held on Saturday April 6th in the Duggan Dolan Chapel at 11:00am with visitations from 10:00am to 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers or donations the family asks for your prayers and kindness to others always. A smile is contagious. Thank you everyone for your caring thoughts, support and prayers.
