Ernest N. Atene

Ernest Nicholas Atene age 91, passed away April 24, 2017 at Barclay Friends Nursing Home, where he resided for the past 7 years.He was born in South Philadelphia on December 15, 1925 to Ernesto and Mary (Pascucci) Atene. Ernest served as a medic in the army in WWII and later retired from Scott Paper. He was a barber and an amazing artist and drafter and loved working outside in the yard. He loved going to his children's and grandchildren's ball games and spending time with friends and family. Ernest was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother and loved by many. He is survived by his wife of 19 years Angelina (Blunno) Atene, his daughter Barbara Fairbrother and husband Rob, his son Steve Atene and wife Donna, grandchildren Brian, Ashley, Shannon, Jessica, Harry, Tara and Christopher and great grandchildren. Ernest was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Theresa (Kane) and daughter Kathleen Atene Fuse.Mass will be held on Monday May 1, 2017 at 10:30 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 430 Valleybrook Rd., Glen Mills. The family will greet friends from 9:15-10:15 am Monday at the Church in the morning before service.Burial will follow at the same location. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Barclay Friends in memory of Ernest Atene to the Caring Fund at Barclay Friends, 700 N. Franklin Street, West Chester, PA 19380.
