Ernest F. Hetzner “Ernie”

Reese, MI

Passed away peacefully Thursday, March 16, 2023, after a lengthy illness at Bavarian Comfort Care; age 82 years. Ernest was born on October 9, 1940 in Saginaw, MI to the late Walter and Katherine (Brechtelsbauer) Hetzner.  He married Joan Mayer on June 30, 1962; she survives him. Ernie was employed by Galsterer Ford for many years and then retiring from Cook Auto. He was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church of Richville. Ernie was a Richville Fire Department volunteer for many years. He enjoyed gardening and tinkering in the shop.

Surviving besides his wife Joan of 61 years are three sons James (Adele) Hetzner of Frankenmuth, Jack (Sonia) Hetzner of Reese, MI, Randy (Jennifer) Hetzner of Frankenmuth, MI; grandchildren Collin and Jared Hetzner, Zachary, Vanessa and Sabrina Hetzner; two brothers-in-law Wallace Mayer and Robert Stoll, two sisters-in-law Sally Hetzner and Doris Buchinger, and many nieces and nephews.

Ernie was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 3455 S. Van Buren Road, Richville, Michigan. Rev. Mark Auernhamer will officiate with burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Ernie’s family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church or the Richville Fire Department.
