Obituary

Ernestine's Obituary

Ernestine Anderson Ridgley entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the age of 93. She was born on November 24, 1932, one of ten children born to Peter and Ernestine Anderson. She spent her early years in Montz, Louisiana, and later moved to Shrewsbury, Louisiana, to live with her aunt.

Ernestine met and married Thomas H. Ridgley, and to this union three children were born. With only a sixth-grade education, she worked tirelessly to build a home and raise her family. She was a tower of strength — wise, generous, resilient, strong-willed, and a GREAT cook.

Ernestine worked for many years in the Jefferson Parish Food Services Department and eventually retired from Magnolia School, where she faithfully served as a support staff caregiver.

A woman of deep faith, Ernestine loved God with all her heart, and His presence was evident throughout her life. Although she was raised Catholic, she found her spiritual home at Marine Missionary Baptist Church, where the motto is “God’s Got It!” She became a proud, lifelong worshiper there and was baptized by Rev. Dave Neyland on the same Sunday as her twin granddaughters — a day she treasured deeply. She was also a devoted member of the church’s Beautifying Club. Under the current leadership of Rev. Donald Robinson, she remained steadfast in her faith — and you certainly could not say anything negative about her pastor!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Ridgley, Sr.; her parents, Ernestine and Peter Anderson, Sr.; her children, Vallerie Ann Ridgley and Thomas Ridgley, Jr.; her sisters, Teresa Victor and Doris McMillan; and her brothers, Uris, Joseph, and Peter Anderson, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted son, Emanuel (Debbie) Ridgley; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; extended family members; her church family; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends whose lives she touched with her strength, wisdom, faith, and love.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m., at Marine & Mt. Moriah Community Church, 3034 Andover St., Jefferson, LA 70121 (Shrewsbury).
