Mother Ethel Mae Bennett

On the afternoon of Wednesday February 25, 2026, a page turned and a chapter closed in the life of Mother Ethel Mae Bennett. She was 95. Born December 16, 1930, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Willie Mackey,Sr. and the late Lula Simpson Mackey Phillips.A native of New Orleans, La., who moved to Dallas, Texas after hurricane Katrina. She was the beloved wife of the late Pastor Gilbert Patrick Bennett, Sr. Her presence will be missed by her four children, Marilyn Duncan, Gilbert P. Bennett, Jr. (Sandra), Linda Rhodes and Dr. Ramona Whitfield of; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; four siblings; three in-laws; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Preceded in death by her parents; her husband Pastor Gilbert P. Bennett, Sr.; one son, Kennett P. Bennett; one sister, Joyce Fontenette; one God child, Michael Tenner. A Homegoing Celebration will be held on March 14, 2026, at New Testament Baptist Church, 1817 Gordon Street, New Orleans, LA 70117 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Pastor Jack Battiste, Officiating.
