Mary Ethel Beard Kendall was born May 21, 1926, in Ardmore, OK to Joseph William and Susie May Austin Beard. She passed from this life to her heavenly home on February 28, 2026.
Ethel attended Plainview School from first through twelfth grade, graduating in 1945. After graduating she joined the workforce. One of her first jobs was as switch-board operator at the airbase in Gene Autry.
She married Robert E. Kendall May 25, 1948, and from this union a daughter and son were born. She was a very dedicated and loving mother, a wonderful cook, and also enjoyed sewing and crochet; always keeping busy even into her eighties and nineties.
She worked most of her life. Jobs included being a waitress, working in the Ardmore Junior/Senior cafeteria, as a bookkeeper for B.L. Owens Furniture Store, and her last job before retiring was as a stock room clerk for the Slaughter Company, where they made electronic testing equipment. After retirement she became a substitute cafeteria worker in the Ardmore School system and continued to work part time for several more years.
Ethel had received Christ as Savior in July 1954. She had been a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church for more than sixty years and spent many hours in the kitchen there helping to prepare food for Bible School or funeral meals or whatever was needed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Roy, Ray, Chester, David and Dan; by five sisters, Jewell Posey, Eula Gardner, Dovie Bahner, Lou Ella Beard, and Bethel Kendall (her twin sister); and an infant grandson.
She is survived by her son Bill Kendall and wife Susie; daughter Louise Ellis and husband Doyle; grandchildren, Chris Ellis and wife Lori, Katie Luttrell and husband Dan, Sara Shepherd and husband Joey, and Misty Hixon; great grandchildren, Madison and Hayden Ellis, Irene Kendall, Sebastian and Jerica Shepherd, Jaxon, Delaney and Makinley Luttrell and Brady Dunlap.
The family wishes to thank Lakeland Manor and Elara Hospice for their excellent care.
Services for Ethel will be Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Trinity Baptist Church with Reverend Terry Tolbert officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery with the assistance of Ethan Doughty, Paul Doughty, Chris Ellis, Doyle Ellis, Dan Luttrell and Joey Shepherd.
Services are entrusted to Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home where words of comfort and condolence may be left for the family at www.hdouglasfuneral.com.
