Eugene ‘Gene’ Olson, 76, of Seney, Iowa, died on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the Seney Methodist Church in Seney, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Elgin Township Cemetery, Seney, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Eugene Lloyd Olson, the son of Albert and Norma (Ehlers) Olson, was born on July 1, 1949, in Le Mars, Iowa. Gene was baptized and confirmed at the Seney Methodist Church. He attended country school in Seney and High School in Le Mars. He graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1967.
He was united in marriage to Sharon Den Ouden on September 6, 1969, at the Seney Methodist Church.
Gene worked for over 40 years for Schuster Trucking in Le Mars. The first 10 years he was a driver. The last 30 years he worked as a dispatcher.
He was a lifelong member of the Seney Methodist Church. He was also a long-time member of the Le Mars Eagle’s Club. He enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, tinkering in his garage, and fishing. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed taking annual family vacations to Leech Lake and Lake Winnie in Minnesota.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Olson of Seney, IA; his children: Shelly (Lee) Muilenburg of Le Mars, IA, and Matt (Rachel) Olson of Sheldon, IA; his grandchildren: Tyler (Samantha) De Wit, Mitchell (Haley) De Wit, Josie (Austin) Kelderman, Sydney (Luke) Van Beek, Maddie Olson, and Sawyer Olson; his great grandchildren: Owen, Ada, Layton, Jax, Cam, Hayes, and Maddyn; his siblings: Patsy (Mike) Stinton of Seney, IA, Cindy Olson of Le Mars, IA, and Alicia (Dave) Alvey of Henderson, NV; his mother in law, Jane Den Ouden of Seney, IA; his in laws: Deb Den Ouden of Akron, IA, Bruce (Jean) Den Ouden of Le Mars, IA, Deb (Terry) Olson of Seney, IA, Patti (Denny) Harms of Le Mars, IA, and Brenda (Bruce) Erickson of Seney, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Casey Den Ouden; and a brother-in-law, Alan Den Ouden.
