Everett David Grosgebauer was born on January 6th, 1940 to Edward and Ella (Kofoid) Grosgebauer in Mandan, ND. Everett’s mother passed away from cancer in October of 1948.
Everett and his father moved to Bottineau in 1949. Everett's father married Bernice Torgerson in December, 1954. He gained three brothers; Keith, Kyle and Kenn, and a few years later welcomed a new brother James. He graduated from Bottineau High School in 1958.
Everett joined the Army in September, 1958. After basic training, Everett trained with other enlisted personnel to become an Army MP (Military Police). Everett completed nearly three years in a European tour that had him residing in Nuremberg Germany. He met many life-long friends there and always included those folks in family hunting traditions.
After Everett was honorably discharged from the Army, he moved back to Bottineau, ND where he met the love of his life, Sheila Tolstad. Everett and Sheila enjoyed the A & W restaurant where Sheila cooked and Everett ate burgers and drank malts.
Everett joined the North Dakota Highway Patrol in 1963 with his first assignment being Elgin, ND. Everett and Sheila were married on March 7, 1964 in Lesje Lutheran Church; Souris, ND and made their home in Elgin where Everett worked for two years. He was then transferred to Fessenden, N D in 1966 with the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Fessenden is where they raised their three children Gary, Andy, and Amy. As a family they enjoyed spending weekends at Lake Metigoshe. Everett retired from the North Dakota Highway Patrol in September 1993 and in retirement drove school bus for the Fessenden-Bowdon School and worked security with the US Marshal Services at the Federal Building in Bismarck.
Everett truly enjoyed hunting and fishing. Everett went on multiple hunting and fishing trips to Canada, and even an elk hunt to Colorado. Some of his military friends used to make ND Duck Hunting an annual event creating many memories and decades of friendship. Everett always took time to take his three children, and their friends, hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, and to church activities. Everett also taught his grandchildren to hunt and fish, and he taught them the importance of safety; no matter if it was a bicycle, a gun, or a car.
Everett and Sheila were fortunate enough to be able to spend many retired winters in Florida with their daughter Amy and family. Everett and Sheila always extended their gratitude for the love and kindness in the Fessenden community. Everett was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Fessenden, the Harvey Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 3080, the 1868 Harvey VFW, and the Frank Proisl Post #33 American Legion in Fessenden.
Heaven's roads will certainly be patrolled by one of the best!
