Evonna's Obituary

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend.

Evonna Merritt Montalvo, a woman whose heart and spirit touched everyone she met, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, surrounded by family. She was 92.

Born April 15, 1933, in Lehi, Utah, Evonna was the youngest sister of Jack and Olea. From an early age, she carried a deep love of family and a natural gift for making people feel special. She spent her life nurturing those around her—with stories, kindness, creativity, and a distinctive sparkle all her own.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eloy “Monty” Montalvo, with whom she built a loving home and shared a life filled with laughter, resilience, and devotion.

Evonna’s legacy continues through her four children: Bill (Penny) Montalvo, Corinne (Dave) Chesley, Marcel (Jaycelyn) Montalvo, and Ty (Mikelyn) Montalvo.

She was a proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply.

A passionate genealogist, Evonna found great purpose in uncovering and preserving her family's history. She believed that knowing where you come from grounds you—and she passed that belief along to her family with care and pride.

She also had an eye for beauty and a love for creation, which she expressed through her ceramics. Her handmade pieces were not only works of art, but also acts of love, gifted generously and displayed proudly in homes near and far.

Evonna was rarely seen without one of her signature hats—a joyful expression of her personality and style. Each hat told its own story, just like she did.

She will also be remembered for her charming tradition of handing out crisp $2 bills to people she believed were especially deserving—a simple but unforgettable gesture that brought smiles and lifted spirits. It was her way of saying, “You matter.”

A visitation will be held Tuesday October 21, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Broomhead Funeral Home (12600 So. 2200 W. Riverton, UT). A Graveside service will be on the following day October 22, 2025, at 12:00 PM at South Jordan City Cemetery (10650 So. 1055 W. South Jordan, UT).
