Evonne Rose McGee of Jensen Beach passed away on February 14, 2026 at Treasure Coast Hospice.Evonne was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 5, 1942 to the late Lowell and Rose Pohlman. She was predeceased by her sister Dr. Carol Campbell and husband Dr. Donald Campbell, also Ed Pohlman and wife Mary Pohlman. Surviving brother John Pohlman and his wife Lenore of Perrysburg, Ohio.Evonne graduated from Roger’s High School with Salutatorian distinction. Later taking classes at Bowling Green State University where she “ran into Calculus”, and decided to take courses that were more interesting to her!She had a career as an accountant working for various institutions like BGSU, FAU and retired from Schmidt & Company in Boca Raton.She was also Miss Wood County!!!Her mother Rose taught a young Evonne the art of sewing and became a proficient Seamstress. From making her own clothes or clothing for others, curtains, gym bags to furniture to towels. She reupholstered the front and back seats of our son’s first car, a 1965 Rambler!When the City of Boynton Beach had their Centennial Celebration, Evonne made a period correct dress using a 100+ year old treadle sewing machine. After the event a sewing store paid her to use the dress as a display in their front window!She also took up Quilting as a hobby! In 1986 she worked on “The Halley’s Comet Quilt” at the South Florida Fair. I believe what she enjoyed the most, was making memory quilts for our two sons Michael and Brett and grandchildren Jessica Rose and Lucs. She put a lot of thought and love into these pieces.Evonne volunteered for various organizations. One was “The Woman’s Build” for Habitat for Humanity. Approximately 50 women started the build but in 6 months when it was finishing up, there was only about 4 of women left! Evonne had the honor of presenting the Keys of the home to a deserving Family!I believe her passion was going through life at a walking pace!While living in Ocean Ridge, Florida, walking from our home to the Inlet and back (about 5 miles+-) always seemed like a good idea!Moving up to Satellite Beach, Evonne “joined” a walking club. She would walk from our home to the civic center where her and her friends would walk for hours counting laps AND then walk to breakfast!Going up to Georgia for a visit with our son Brett McGee and his wife Gwen in the heat of the summer was quite the experience. Her idea of fun on a 100+ degree day was walking down a Georgia’s red clay dusty road to the main highway to watch the heat shimmer off the pavement. Nothing to it!Our trip to Encinitas in Southern California involved walking the very hilly streets from Swami’s to Moonlite to Grandview!!! Evonne loved Encinitas, the homes, the people and the scenery. This town is very walking friendly!For many years Evonne would participate in a 5K as a fundraiser for Suicide Prevention in Satellite Beach. Our son Michael McGee and his wife Tracey would accompany and encourage her for this event!On her Birthday last year, Evonne walked a 13.1 mile half Marathon! Sheer determination and will power allowed her to finish this test of endurance!Her walking pace allowed her to get exercise, see nature, and most of all talk and converse with friends and neighbors along the way. Our neighborhood here in Jensen Beach is a ½ mile loop. Evonne would say, “I’m going to do a few laps.” An hour or so later, she would be back. How many laps did you do? With a big smile on her face, she would say ‘Just one, but I did see a manatee, and talked with Lil, Nancy, Todd, Brenda, Sandra, Patty and Rick, and many more’.Her smile was contagious!Evonne the ‘little surfer girl’ who loved to watch waves, we called “zippers”, at night under a moonlit ocean. All the while listing to favorite music and mind surfing the night time waves!Evonne, allowing me to walk along with you in this life means more than words could ever express.When we are both returned to Star Dust, and our ashes are spread into the Sea, we can travel the Oceans together again on the slow Tidal Waves of time...In lieu of flowers, a donation to a homeless shelter in your area or to Tent City Helpers I am sure would put a smile on her face! Tent City Helpers serves Martin County Homeless.
