Flora Kusch Obituary

Flora Lee Kusch, age 94, of Enid, OK passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023 in Murfreesboro, TN. She was born in Jefferson City, MO to the late Constantine Doerfler and Victoria Stressler. She was an L.P.N for over 50 years. Flora saw mankind at its lowest and highest, believing in hard work, and blood, sweat, and tears, but she also sought kindness, laughter, and joy. She was a mentor to many, a helping hand to all, and she shared her wealth of practical knowledge with all people. In her latter years, as her body declined and her brain played cruel tricks, she often spoke of her readiness and willingness to “cross the river to the other side”.

Flora is survived by her sons, Michael (Stephanie) Kusch, and Dr. Stanferd (Linda) Kusch; sisters, Doris Chapman, and Wanda Avery; grandchildren, Amy, Kali, Adam, Austin, Allison, Savannah, Mary Kate, and Anna, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Flora is proceeded in death by her beloved husband Harold Kusch; her brother, Leroy; and her sisters, Sherrie and Connie.

There are no services to be held at this time.

One of the best nurses I’ve had the privilege working under. She went above and beyond for her patients and lead by example. I think about her often and will always hold a spot in my heart for her.

Flora was the first nurse I worked under when I was a CNA as a kid. I became a LPN in 2003 and Flora and I worked together at The Commons for years. She was more than a mentor to me, she was a friend. She helped mold me into the nurse I am today. I was only 19 when I became a nurse and Flora was my trainor. She made sure to teach me the “correct way” to handle things at the nursing home. We had a lot of fun together. I will never forget when it became my turn to “train” her on the computer and electronic charting. She was not a fan! She is by far one of the hardest working ladies I have ever met. My condolences to her family. She will be missed.

It's late, as I just found out about the passing of flora. I worked with her at the Commons for several years. She was older than a lot of our residents but would and could work circles around the young aides. She was so smart, loving and took amazing care of her people. She used to tell me, all the time, that I reminded her of her when she was young. I just LOVED that woman! May she rest in heaven!

Flora and I went to nursing school together here in our hometown. We worked together at INTEGRIS and Commons Nursing Home. We loved our job and worked well together, laughter and some tears. Rip my friend.
