So sorry to hear about the passing of Flossie. She was a beautiful person. I remember the frequent visits to our home when I was growing up by Bill & Flossie. She was very special.

Flossie was a beautiful light, and deeply loved by so many. ‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted’ (Matthew 5:4). Praying God’s comfort and strength over your family.”

Florinda “Flossie” Mazzulla Highsmith passed away on January 3, 2026. She was born on August 23, 1925, in the community of San Fili, in the Province of Calabria, Italy. At the age of three, she immigrated to the United States with her family, entering through Ellis Island before settling in Rhode Island.
She was later swept away in marriage by a Texas boy, Willis Monroe “Bill” Highsmith, who preceded her in death on December 31, 1994. Bill brought Flossie to Texas, where together they made a home and raised their family.
Flossie celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family in August 2025.
She was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the St. Ann’s organization, and the Cotulla Garden Club.
Flossie worked for many years at Gaddis Pharmacy, where she was known for her dedication and friendly presence.
She especially enjoyed playing cards with friends, as well as cooking and baking for her family. Her children will attest that she was an exceptional cook, and her lasagna and chocolate chip pumpkin bread were beloved Christmas traditions.
Flossie is survived by her daughters Denise Storey, Paulette Roch and Laura Gomez and her son Tommy Highsmith, 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care she received from Las Palmas Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation and Heart to Heart Hospice.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Peters Funeral Home from 10:00a.m. to 11:30a.m. with a Rosary at 10:00a.m.
