Frances Monica Deacon"Monica"1944 – 2025
With deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Frances Monica Deacon—known to all as Monica—on October 5, 2025, at the age of 80.
Monica was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a treasured friend. She shared 60 beautiful years of marriage with her husband, Robert, building a life filled with laughter, love, and countless cherished memories.
Born in Camden to Hillman and Evelyn Shivers and raised in Pennsauken, New Jersey, Monica was proud to be the first-ever drum majorette at Pennsauken High School—a distinction she carried with pride and fond memories throughout her life.
She was the proud mother of three daughters: Staci (Anthony) Pietrafesa, Kelli (Jon) Jacob, and Melissa (Pete) Jamison. Her greatest joy was her family, and nothing brought her more happiness than time spent with her seven grandchildren—Michael (Alexandria), Brielle (Olivia), Conor, Parker, Madelyn, Shane, and Emily—and her three great-grandchildren, who lit up her life in her later years. She is also survived by her sister Karen Harbeson.
Creativity and kindness were at the heart of who Monica was. She had a true passion for crafting, especially stamping and scrapbooking, and she poured love into every handmade creation. Whether it was a carefully designed card or a scrapbook full of memories, Monica’s talent left a lasting impression. She also found peace and strength in the practice of Tai Chi, which she enjoyed in her later years.
The holidays were a special time for Monica. She was the heart of every Thanksgiving, lovingly preparing the family meal, and she made Christmas magical for everyone around her—filling the house with warmth, decorations, traditions, and joy.
Monica's gentle spirit, warm hugs, and thoughtful heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the love she gave and the family she built.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Monica’s life on Monday, October 13th, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Alloway Funeral Home, 315 E Maple Avenue, Merchantville. A service will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Monica’s memory by making a donation to The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
