Not sure what to say?

I will forever miss my grandma. I know you’re completely whole and you are so deserving of all the glory you’re surrounded by in heaven. Rest in paradise grandma. I love you beyond the stars and back.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

My deepest condolences to the family of Mrs Mickens. She was a true example of a woman of God. I remember her for as long as I can remember from the Shiloh Institutional Baptist Church being my mom’s best friend until my mom preceded her in death. She was one of the few who I trusted for leadership in my Christian walk because she did not only talked the Christian way of life but she walked the Christian what she talked. You was a great person to no. I will miss you my other mother figure. I was a better wife and mother because of you.

My Sincere Condolences

Sorry for your loss. Praying for you and your family

I offer my condolences.

My deepest sympathy and prayers to our dear friends Gloria, Clarence, Amalie and the entire family. Just know we are praying for you in this time of such a loss after such a long life. God bless you. With Love!

Frances's Obituary

Frances Bowden Mickens departed this life on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on November 1, 1928, in Hamlet, North Carolina, to the late Sank Joseph and Mary Bowden, Frances moved to Charlotte at a young age, where she was lovingly raised and spent the majority of her life.

A bright and dedicated student, Frances graduated from West Charlotte High School in 1945 at the remarkable age of 16. That same year, she married the love of her life, Iree Mickens. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising five children: Carolyn, Gloria, Donnell, Janice, and Michael.

Frances was a devoted servant of God and her community. She was a faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and later Greater Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, where she served diligently until her health declined. Her commitment to her faith was evident through her active participation in the hymn choir and Sunday School. Beyond her church, Frances was a passionate advocate for her community, tirelessly working on voter activation initiatives and serving as the dedicated secretary of the Eleanor Heights Neighborhood Association.

Frances was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Sank Joseph and Mary Bowden; her devoted husband, Iree Mickens; and her precious daughter, Janice McClurkin.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Carolyn Robinson (the late Dewey), Gloria Wilson (Clarence), Donnell Mickens (the late Doris), Michael Mickens (Sandra), and Anton Shipp (Peggy). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, faith, and community service will forever be etched in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
