Fred's Obituary

Fred Owens, 87, passed away on August 25, 2025, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort, KY. He was the beloved husband of 38 years to Brenda Joyce Ethington Owens. Born on September 26, 1937, in Harlan, KY, Fred was the son of the late Thomas Edward Owens and Allie Cole Owens.

Fred proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years as a radar specialist. After his military service, he spent 20 years working in manufacturing at I.B. Moore, followed by a position at Buffalo Trace before fully retiring. He lived a full and active life. He enjoyed volunteering at the VA and traveling across the country with Brenda in their motorhome. He loved playing card games—especially hand and foot—and working crossword, sudoku, and jigsaw puzzles. A daily routine for Fred included watching Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, and Saturday nights were cherished as he and Brenda tuned into The Dailey & Vincent Show and Presley’s Country Jubilee on RFD-TV. A committed blood donor, Fred gave several gallons of blood throughout his lifetime. Lastly, family meant everything to Fred. Sundays were special, as he and Brenda welcomed loved ones into their home for shared meals and time together.

Fred is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda; his children: Vickie Morlan, Kevin Owens (Cindy), Patricia Gill (Roy), Janet Owens, Tammy Mason (Justin), Carol Brewer (Jamie), David Perkins (Janet), and Jason Perkins (Sheila); 22 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Perkins, and his siblings: Herbert, Curt, Clifford, Lawrence, Ronald, Donald, Beryl, and Evelyn.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Ronnie McKinney. Burial with military honors will follow at Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 27, and again on Thursday beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Skylar Mason, Brice Mason, Anthony Brewer, Brian Brewer, Jared Brewer, Jeffrey Perkins, Matthew Perkins, and Keaton Perkins. Fred’s granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg. Condolences may be shared at www.ritchieandpeach.com.
