Fredd's Obituary

Fredd Baber, age 58, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on October 31, 2025. Born on October 20, 1967, in Ashtabula, Ohio, he was the youngest of 8 children born to Fred and June Baber. Though born in Ohio, his roots were Laurel Hill, FL.

Fredd is survived by his loving wife Janice, children Caitlyn & husband Blake, Tristan, Erin & husband Tim, and Michael, as well as siblings Andy, Liz & husband Tom, Bruce & wife Rhonda, Ted, Laurie & husband Tony, and Ed.

His love for his wife Janice was strong, and he was the love of her life. They had many adventures, and appreciated being snowbirds between Port Charlotte, Florida and Westerly, Rhode Island. They also spent many happy times in Princeton, Maine, at Janice’s family camp. They were living the dream of always being where it was warm and sunny.

Fredd was passionate about family. His love for Caitlyn & Tristan knew no bounds. He had such joy when with them. He was proud of Caitlyn becoming her own woman, strong and kind and loving. He treasured talking and being with Tristan and was particularly proud that Tristan carried on the Marine Corp legacy. The Baber men doing their part. He treated Janice’s children Erin & Mike with love from day one, and they were very close. His latest pride and joy was his year-old grandson Alex. Being a Paw-Paw was Fredd’s dream and he adored that little guy!

Fredd was also very passionate about being a small craft pilot. He lived and breathed it. He loved being in the air and sharing that with anyone who would join him in the cockpit. He and Janice enjoyed many flights together, either sightseeing or just “going to breakfast in Martha’s Vineyard”, as he liked to say. Fredd died doing what he treasured.

Fredd loved to spend time on Facebook connecting with friends, debating the issues of the day, or just finding funny dog videos or other silly things he would share to brighten our days. Anyone who knew Fredd experienced a passionate, vocal, funny, sweet, and above all LOVING man. Being engulfed in a bear hug from that broad chest was a treat. He would give you the shirt off his back.

Fredd was fearless. He was not afraid to fail, would take anything on, even if he had no previous experience. He didn’t really know how to swim, but he learned and then completed many triathlons. He had an extremely creative mind and was an excellent writer. He wrote a handful of screen plays, submitted them to competitions, and intended to film one or two himself this next year. Recently a few writers even came to him for feedback on their screenplays. He always took time to provide thoughtful and kind feedback. That’s just who he was.

Immediately following his high school graduation, Fredd proudly joined the Marines where he was a weapons specialist for 6 years, serving in Desert Storm. At his core was his rock-hard dedication, work ethic, devotion, and resiliency. These were a result of his upbringing.

Fredd came from “good stock”. He adored his father, who was a Marine as well, in WWII Iwo Jima and a hard-working farmer. Fredd tells the story of the day his Mom passed. He was in the Marines and flying a small plane at the time. He was navigating some storm clouds, trying to find his way through, and was guided safely by a rainbow in the sky. When he landed, he received a phone call that his Mom had just passed – at the same time he saw that rainbow. He felt that rainbow was his Mom guiding him safely. Fredd is now with his Mom & Dad, I’m sure.

There is a memorial bench installed at the end of the cul de sac in Florida in Fredd’s name. It sits on a small pond, where Fredd and Janice had frequently talked about wanting a place to sit and enjoy the view. Janice spends time there relaxing and feeling Fredd’s presence.

Graveside service for Fredd Baber will be 11AM Tuesday March 10, 2026, at North Creek Cemetery with Bruce Baber officiating.
