Not sure what to say?

Rick and I were colleagues, then the best of friends. If the family will indulge me, I would like to place here a link to the words I shared about Rick at his memorial service.

I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to work with Rick on my father’s negro league baseball career. He was always supportive and willing to proof my writing. He was genuinely interested in the research and gave me whatever time he had to spare to help me get it right. Our last communication was him pushing me to publish my story. And if he is looking down I pray that he sees the progress.

My condolences to Michelle, the boys and his mother at this difficult time. I’m...

I got to know Rick over the last 6 years through the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) while we were working on chapters for a number of historical biographies about the Negro Leagues. Rick was one of my editors and I always found him to be wonderful to work with. I only got to know him through our frequent emails while we were working on these projects. I regret that I did not have a chance to meet him personally. However, even in emails, I could always tell what an extraordinary...

We only met Rick one time but we were instantly comfortable around him. We wish we had more time to get to know him and hear about his amazing life. He leaves behind any equally wonderful family.

Ingrid has been a friend for a long time, certainly since Rick was in high school. I am glad to have known his loving relationship with his mother thru all these years, certainly. Later years his wife and lastly his sons. He was a good Christian. I will miss him for Ingrid's, Michelle's and certainly the boys' sake.

We were friends of Roland and Ingrid and knew Rick when he was home from school. Our prayers are with your family.

We do not know Rick, Michelle or Michael, but my son, Nikolas Krancher, knows Daniel and Andrew through Band and other classes in middle school. Niko has been especially sad for his friends and will be there to support them and lift their spirits when he can. Our family has your family on our minds, in our hearts, and in our prayers. We are so very sorry for your loss. May God comfort you all and give you all strength during this very difficult time.

Matt,Brandon and I send our prayers and condolences. This was a shock to hear. We are here for you and your family if you need something. We were honored to have known Rick. May God keep his oiling arms around you all.
