Fred was one of my best table tennis buddies. We met early in my table tennis career at a tournament in Springfield and quickly became friends. We traveled to a few tournaments together and played in the Detroit US OPEN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP on the same team a few times. I really liked Fred's sense of humor and just talking to him. He had an unusual and very effective style of play that I loved playing against. He helped develop my own game quite a bit. I will miss him very much. The playing and...

Being friends with Joan and Fred for almost 60 years has been a gift! When we watch sunsets on the Gulf we will think of Fred. Prayers for Fred and the family he loved so much.

Even at age 80 Fred played pickleball like a champ. And he always had a smile and kind words of encouragement for his teammate. I'm glad to have met such a gentleman. Rest in peace, Fred.

Fred was always a delight to be in company with. His smile, conversations, and sharing his love for pickleball made it a pleasure to see him at any time. I will always remember him reaching out to us to extend an encouraging word with a heart full of love.

I’m going to miss my Illini basketball and Cardinal baseball buddy. Fred never missed one of their games on television and a few we watched together. We couldn’t ask for better neighbors than Fred and Joan. God bless the Halbig family.
