Gabriel Romero Sr. passed away the morning of October 13th, 2021 in Midland, Texas. He had just celebrated his 50th birthday, on August 10th, with many barbecues and more cakes than he was able to eat. He'd gone to school and grew up in East Midland, where he was well known as someone who would lend a hand whenever needed. He regularly went back to his childhood neighborhood to visit with his elders and check that all was well. The star quarterback of the football team in his prime, made a career as a tire man who was not afraid of getting his hands dirty. He worked for Bill Williams Tire Center for the better part of 20 years. Before his passing, he enjoyed cooking out with his family and friends and spoiling his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed fishing and would often head out on guy trips with anyone who was able to join. His favorite spot was Pandale where he spent many weekends on the river searching for a good catfish and swimming until he was sunburnt. He was always willing to join a road trip and was eager to get on the open road with family for quality time. His truck was often equipped with camping gear and tire fixing necessities, should the need arise. He is survived by his parents; Juan Romero I and Magdalena Zapata; grandmother, Patricia Urquidez; His siblings George Romero and wife Flora, Juan Romero II and wife Sylvia, Anna Ramirez and husband Luis Gamino and DuJuan Romero; four children Teresa Romero, Naomi Romero, Gabriel Romero and wife Alejandra Alvarez, and Maria Cruz and husband Juan; and his seven grandchildren and many loved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his Grandparents Dolores and Maria (Chavela) Romero. An all day viewing will be held at Heavenly Gate Funeral Home on October 21, 2021 and will be concluded by a Rosary Prayer at 7 P.M., The funeral service will be Friday October 22, 2021 at 10 A.M. Burial will be following the service at Resthaven North Cemetery. A celebration of his life and those he loved will be held at West Kentucky Baptist Church following the burial, where his family and friends are preparing a potluck feast. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated and more than welcome. The pallbearers are George, George Jr., Juan II and Juan III, with Honorary pallbearers being his son Gabriel Jr. and his father Juan I. The family would like to express their gratitude towards everyone who helped with the fundraisers and anyone who sent their condolences. He was loved by many and the love extended towards his family has been heart warming and comforting.
