Garnette Sue West, 85, of Louisa, Virginia, peacefully stepped over into Glory on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the Laurels of Charlottesville, surrounded by her family. She was born to the late William and Pauline Corbin. She was also preceded in death by her brother, J.C. Corbin; a son, Christopher Lee West; a great-grandson, Cory Forloines and her son-in-laws, Larry Drumheller and Bob Clary. She was also in preceded in death by her sweet little dog, Gizmo, who was her best friend and companion.
Garnette was better known as “Mom”, “Mommy” and “Granny”. She retired with over 35 years of service with the University of Virginia Food Services, with her final departmental assignment in the Kluge Children’s Rehabilitation Center. Garnette loved family gatherings and was always ready to go on a road trip. She was a lover of eating out at her favorite restaurants, Ihop and Wood Grill, and being a little social bug on her Walmart trips. She was always looking for a bargain at yard sales and church bazaars.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Beaven (Barry) of Los Lunas, New Mexico; Marsha Corbin of Orlando, Florida; Martha Corbin of Howardsville, Virginia; Donna Drumheller (Eric) Schuyler, Virginia, and Dixie Penton (Carl) of Orange, Virginia. She is also survived by the following grandchildren: Brandon Stough, Michelle Hippert (Phillip), Kimberly Shelton (Tim), Harley Gentry (Luke), Bridgette West and Taylor Ragland; and her great-grandchildren: Skyler, Caroline, Chase and Mia; and one great-great grandchild: Walker. She is survived by one nephew, Bradley Corbin.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Jamison Ryan and Lewis Tillman for everything they did for their mother after their brother passed. Also, a special thank to the staff at the Laurels of Charlottesville for the care they provided to their mother and the kindest that showed to the family.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Anderson Funeral Service Chapel in Crozet with Pastors Daryl Harbin and Chris Hirtriter officiating. Interment will be in Prize Hill Cemetery, Boonesville, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, from 11:00 - 12:00 at the funeral home.
