Not sure what to say?

Kellie / Eric / Bill / Cara & Family - Thank you for providing a time for laughter & tears to celebrate Gary. When I think of Uncle Gary - I think of Humor / Competitiveness / Sense of fairness.

What a legacy with example of loving your Wife / Sons / Family.

I find a lot of comfort in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.

Wishing you much peace during this difficult time.

Of Clarkston and formerly of Waterford passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 5, 2022 at the age of 71.

Much loved husband of Kellie for over 35 years. Loving father of Eric L. Dovre (Cara) and William R. Mastick (Casey Watkins). Adoring “Gramps” of Nora and Lincoln Dovre. Son-in-law of Joyce O'Brien.  Brother of Pat Grybel (Michael). Brother-in-law of Tim Patterson and Jeff O'Brien (Christie). “Fun” Uncle of Scott Shipman (Beth), Tammy Edelman (James), Amy Carey (David), Beth Earley (Paul), Jenna O’Brien and Brooke O’Brien, and many great nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Winnifred Dovre and his dear sister, Julie Patterson.

Gary was an attorney for over 30 years and his problem-solving nature and respect for all made him especially adept at resolving disputes that were agreeable to all parties. He took pride in providing the highest standard of municipal law, even being recognized from 2010-2021 in The Best Lawyers of America publication.

Gary graduated from Michigan State University in 1973 and later from Detroit College of Law in 1977. Through Sparty’s ups & downs, he enjoyed MSU football and basketball games with friends and family. Above all, Gary loved sharing his favorite pastimes of camping, golfing, tennis, and later bowling.

In lieu of flowers and given Gary’s love of the outdoors and all animals, please consider a donation to Waterford Parks & Recreation for the benefit of Hess Hathaway Park in memory of Gary Dovre where he shared special memories across generations with his sons and grandkids. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Visitation will be held at the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston on Friday, December 9, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 10 at 11:30 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 12:30 p.m.
