Gary J. Ernzen, 71, of Epworth, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at his home surrounded by family and friends.
Per Gary’s wishes there will be no public services.
Gary was born November 22, 1953, (Thanksgiving Day) in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Raymond and Ardella (Wolf) Ernzen. He was a 1972, graduate of Western Dubuque High School in Epworth, Iowa. He is a past member of the Epworth Volunteer Fire Department. He worked for John Deere Dubuque Works and Area Residential Care both in Dubuque, Iowa.
Gary had a love for the outdoors and found joy in simple pleasures. He enjoyed casting a line on quiet fishing trips, exploring nature through hiking, and spending time on the golf course. A fan of friendly competition, he also liked playing darts with friends. His appreciation for horses reflected his admiration of their strength and beauty, and he cherished the time he spent around them. These hobbies brought him happiness throughout his life and created many lasting memories with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Kerry Ernzen of Epworth, IA; his five children, Bobbi (Shannon) Kramer and Doug (RyLee) Ernzen both of Epworth, IA, Greg (Bud Thul) Ernzen of Dubuque, IA Nick Ernzen of Mechanicsville, MD and Shelly Ernzen of Guttenberg, IA; and his fur baby, Loki.
Memorials may be given to the Epworth Fire Department in Gary’s name.
