Gary Wayne Keeney had his homecoming with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 19, 2026, at the age of 80. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on January 22, 1946. He attended Paschal High School in Fort Worth and then received his bachelor’s degree from Arlington College in 1969.
He married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Wiley, on May 30, 1970. Gary continued his education at Texas A&M University, where he earned a master’s degree in computer science. Gary worked as a computer programmer for several companies. Gary and Pat ultimately planted roots in Deer Park, Texas, in 1979, where they have lived in the same house since.
Gary was the proud Daddy of 4 children and Papa to 11 grandchildren. After retirement, Gary spent most of his time cheering on his grandkids in all their endeavors. You could find Papa at the ball fields, the Art Park theater, and all their school and church performances or shuttling them around town in his old black truck. He also enjoyed his wife’s delicious home cooked meals.
Gary enjoyed the outdoors and instilled a love of camping with his family. To this day, every summer the Keeney family can be found tent camping on the Guadalupe River. When his son was younger, he was a Scout Master helping to shape the lives of many youth. Gary loved doing fun runs with his family and footraces with his grandchildren; he even ran a half marathon at the age of 70. He regularly rode his bike around town and to his children’s houses just to see what was going on.
Gary devoted himself to growing the Kingdom of God. He attended seminary at Anderson University in Indiana from 1975-1977. He was a devoted evangelist who spread the gospel throughout the community. You could always find him with a tract or bible verse in his backpack, ready to hand out when led. He left a generational legacy of strong faith.
Gary is survived by his wife, Patricia Keeney, of almost 56 years of marriage; his four children, Laura Hicks (Jerry), Steven Keeney (Cherilyn), Sarah Dupuis (Scott), and Amanda Nunn (Chris); his eleven grandchildren, Mallory and Layton Hicks; Grace, Annalise, and Emmaline Keeney; Sean, Seth, and Sydney Dupuis; and David, Luke, and Jacob Nunn, all of Deer Park, Texas; and his brother, Greg Keeney, of Joshua, Texas.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence “CB” and Grace Keeney, and his brother, Roger Keeney, all of Fort Worth, Texas.
He was a faithful Christian who fought the good fight, finished the course, and kept the faith.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 9:00-11:00 am at Parkgate Community Church, located at 3715 Preston Ave. Pasadena, Texas 77505. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00 am. He will be laid to rest the following day at Faulkenberry Cemetery in Groesbeck, Texas, with a graveside service starting at noon.
