Gary's Obituary

Passed away at his home at age 66, on Monday, July 13, 2020, after a brave but difficult 5 year battle against cancer. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy H. (Ritter) and Paul N. Mihlfried. He was the beloved brother of Cheryl J. Pfennigwerth, Paul W. (Kathy) Mihlfried and Gail M. Mihlfried. Gary was the cherished and fun-loving uncle of Heidi (Keith Spencer) Pfennigwerth, Thomas (Wendy) Pfennigwerth, Adam (Grace Kane) Mihlfried, Brad (Kristin) Mihlfried, Jesse Beck, Stephen (Allie Jankens) Mihlfried, Sara (Eric) Upchurch and Nicole Mihlfried. He is also survived by 11 great nieces and great nephews, his aunt, his uncle and many cousins. Gary was a 1971 graduate of North Catholic High School. He was a life-long member of Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local #12 where he was held in high regard by all who worked with him and where he held various management and supervisory roles. Gary loved the outdoors and nature, especially time spent at McConnell's Mill. He was happiest spending time with family and his close circle of life-long friends. Gary was an all-around loving, kind and considerate brother and friend who was always giving of himself and looking out for others. He was exceptional in how he connected with so many people. In many ways, Gary was a strong, strong man who is now resting in peace with his God throughout eternity. At Gary's request, there will be no viewing, funeral or memorial service. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made in Gary's name to The American Cancer Society or The Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
