James Gay Slusher, age 75, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024 at his home near Des Arc. He was born March 24, 1949 in Ironton, MO, the son of James and Helen (Berry) Slusher.
Gay was married to Shirley Russell November 10, 1967 in Des Arc. A long time resident of Des Arc, he served in the Army National Guard from 1967 to 1973. Gay operated Slusher Backhoe Service and drove a school bus for South Iron Schools for nearly 25 years.
Preceding him in death are his parents, James and Helen Slusher.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Shirley Slusher, of the home, 2 children, Jimmy Slusher and his wife Angel, of Des Arc, Gayla Dace and her husband John, of Oak Ridge, MO and 2 sisters, Carolyn Hodge and her husband Virgel, of Piedmont and Jean Westmoreland and her husband Richard, of Vulcan.
Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Crystal Slusher, Brad Slusher, Karl Slusher, Emma Dace and William Dace; 1 great grandchild, Ean Slusher, his niece, Kathy McKelvey and many other family and friends.
Visitation was held at 11:00 AM Wednesday and the Morrison Funeral Chapel in Piedmont. Funeral services followed at 1:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Howard Casteel officiating. Special recorded songs were played for the service and Jimmy Slusher, Brad Slusher, Karl Slusher, William Dace, John Dace and Mark Browne served as Pall Bearers. Military Honors were given at graveside by the United States Army and the Piedmont American Legion Post #281 Honor Guard.
Interment was in the Mt. View Cemetery in Des Arc.
