Gaylan's Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Gaylan Brexton Whetsell of Decatur, Texas announce his passing on April 9, 2025 at the age of 75. He was born to F.W. “Wayne” Whetsell and Betty Lou Dyer Whetsell on August 26, 1949 in Bowie, Texas.  He was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Fuller Whetsell on April 28, 1973 in Park Springs, Texas.

Gaylan is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly; daughter, Becky of Jacksboro, and her husband Clint, along with grandchildren Addison (14) and Connor (10); son, Clay of Decatur, and his wife Sarah, with grandchildren Carter (10) and Britten (8). He is also survived by many dear friends and extended family who will forever cherish his memory.

Gaylan’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren. Known as "BB" to them and their friends, he was a cherished figure in their lives and in the neighborhood. Animals of all kinds were drawn to Gaylan’s gentle spirit—he was often found feeding the neighborhood deer, cats, birds, and squirrels, and his loyal dogs were never far from his side.

In his free time, Gaylan found happiness in riding his motorcycle, driving his tractor, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. He loved to sit outside, taking in the world around him. His deep bond with his son, Clay, was evident to all, and his daughter, Becky, always had him wrapped around her finger. Gaylan’s kind heart and generous spirit made him everyone’s "BB."

A graveside service to honor Gaylan’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025 at Cumby Cemetery in Chico, Texas.  Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.

Gaylan will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, kindness, and joy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.owensandbrumley.com
