Our condolences, thoughts, and prayers to everyone. I didn't have the pleasure of knowing George very well, only meeting him a few times, but he definitely brought an upbeat, positive energy, and a lot of stories, to every gathering that will truly be missed.

Green Island – George L. Benoit, 80, after a long illness, died peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born in South Burlington, VT, son of the late Amedee and Emelia Fournier Benoit, he resided in Green Island most of his lifetime. George served his county in the US Army during the Korean War and was employed for many years by the Painter's Union Local 201. He was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet and the former St. Joseph's Church in Green Island. George loved to boat and fish, but most of all he loved to share his stories. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Craney Benoit; his devoted children, Mary (Larry) Flynn, Anne (Mark) Tremblay and John (Rosy) Benoit; his grandchildren, Alicia (Chris) Cavanaugh, Terrence, Steve and Daniel Flynn; his siblings, Paul Benoit, Mary Jane Casey and Mary Sara "Mae" (Raymond) Boyea; and many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his brothers, Phil and Henry "Gil" Benoit and sister, Bertha Tiernan. Funeral services will be held at the McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Avenue, Green Island on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Father Edward Deimeke officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Troy. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Dr. Benton for all he has done, as well as the ICU staff at Samaritan Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to Samaritan Hospital for heart and lung research.
